How can we help you to stay healthy?

Falls, frailty, polypharmacy, osteoporosis and cognitive problems can have a significant impact on a person/carer's quality of life. We provide comprehensive geriatric assessment to identify risk factors and help patients modify and treat those risk factors so they can enjoy their independence to full extent.

What does a geriatrician do?

A Geriatrician is a specialist doctor that specifically deals with medical and phsychological issues of the older person.

Several medical conditions are more commonly found in geriatric patients, eg:

  • dementia

  • delirium

  • falls

  • balance problems

  • frailty

  • osteoporosis

  • congestive cardiac failure and

  • polypharmacy

  • Advanced care directives

Also, most of the geriatric patients have multiple complex medical problems that are inter-related to each other and can be very challenging to treat. If not treated properly, these can result in various medical complications and early nursing home placements.

As the doctors of older people, we provide a holistic care to our patients and their families.

Facts:

  • 40 % of people aged 70 and above have a fall within 12 months

  • A fall can result in early nursing home placement

  • Most of the falls are preventable

  • Dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia

  • Approximately 1 new case of dementia is diagnosed every 6 minutes in Australia

“The problem with aging is not that it's one damn thing after another---it's every damn thing, all at once, all the time.”
